The A-Team Sports Trio Selected for Tonga PNC Squad

Congratulations to Albi backrow/lock Dan Faleafa, West Harbour scrumhalf Wayne Ngaluafe and Randwick centre Kuki Ma’afu on their selection for the upcoming Pacific Nations Cup.

For Dan this will be his third tour for the Ikale Tahi and Wayne his second after being a late inclusion into last years PNC while Kuki is set to make his Ikale Tahi debut after having previously represented Tonga A and Tonga 7s.

We wish the trio all the best for the tour and hope to see them many more times in the national jersey.

Kevin O’Byrne re-signs with Munster

24 year old Munster hooker, Kevin O’Byrne has committed to two more seasons at Irish Pro12 outfit Munster.

A former Munster under 20s player, O’Byrne joined the Munster squad in the 2014/15 season off the back of impressive performances with his club side UL Bohemian RFC. In his first season, Kevin went on to make 11 Pro12 appearances making his debut at home against Edinburgh in September 2014.

The 24 year old Corkman has featured on one occasion this season as well as lining up for Munster A in the British & Irish Cup.

Josh Afu signs marquee deal in Hong Kong

17 test Tongan international Josh Afu has signed a marquee player deal with the HKFC.

The former Queensland Reds, Newcastle Falcons, Carcassonne and Kamaishi Seawaves lock or backrower has made the next move in his illustrious career making the move to Hong Kong where he will be joining the Hong Kong Football Club this week.

The move to Hong Kong for the experienced forward is a sign of how the game is evolving in Asia and Josh is thrilled to be joining such a well established club in the region.

Speaking on the move Josh said; ‘I’m really looking forward to this challenge, it is a bit of an unknown to me but i have only heard great things about the club and competition and can’t wait to get involved over there.’

Will Thomas, Director of Rugby at HKFC, commented ‘we are very much looking forward to Josh joining our squad as he comes with an excellent playing pedigree and a track record of playing in a few different countries.  I’d like to thank Alex Deane for so swiftly arranging the deal over the festive period and look forward to further developing a relationship with The A-Team Sports over the coming season.’

Kelly Meafua Signs With Narbonne

Former Samoa 7’s rep, West Harbour Pirates and Greater Sydney Rams backrower Kelly Meafua has signed with French ProD2 outfit Narbonne for the 2015/16 season.

An outstanding first year in Sydney saw Kelly take out the Shute Shield ‘Rookie of the Year’ award and go on to be a dominant force in the backrow for the Rams NRC campaign. His strong form didn’t go unnoticed with Rocky Elsom further strengthening his Australian connection at Narbonne taking on Kelly, the second West Harbour Pirate this season after fellow A-Team Sports athlete Junior Satiu who also signed earlier in the season.

This year Kelly finished the regular shute shield season with a very impressive 139 ball carries and 151 tackles made from 14 games.

 

 

Dave McKern Signs With Jersey RFC

Towering ACT lock Dave McKern has signed with Jersey in the English Championship on an 18 month deal.

Hailing from Armidale in country New South Wales, Dave made the move to Canberra after school to pursue his rugby ambitions where he went on to join Wests Lions and then earn rep honours with the UC Vikings and Brumbies A sides.

The opportunity to join Jersey came at short notice for Dave with one of their starting locks going down to a long term injury. Speaking on the signing, Dave said “Obviously it’s unfortunate for Jersey in that it’s a shame to see one of the guys suffer a bad injury but i’m over the moon to be given the opportunity and will do what i can to help the team out. It has always been something I’ve wanted to do, play in England and I’ve heard great things about the English Championship so I can’t wait to get over there and give it a good nudge.”

JB Bruzulier Signs World Cup Joker Deal

Young Worcester halfback JB Bruzulier has signed a two month World Cup joker contract with French powerhouse Clermont.

After Clermont got in contact last week, JB jumped at the opportunity to join the Top14 giants with the blessing of Warriors DOR Dean Ryan. For JB this is an opportunity to gain valuable game time during a world cup year and come back to Worcester with the added experience of Top14 rugby.

Speaking on the deal, Bruzulier said “This is a huge opportunity for me and after spending two years playing in France previously it will be great to get back there…hopefully my French isn’t to rusty. Clermont is one of the biggest clubs in world rugby so hopefully what i can pick up there will help when i get back to the Warriors in a couple of months.”

Pettowa Paraka Signs New Deal With The Queensland Reds

The Queensland Reds have re-signed loosehead prop Pettowa Paraka on a 2 year deal. After a breakout 2015 season which saw Paraka earn 6 caps for the Reds, the 21 year old is now looking to cement a position in the squad.

Speaking on the signing, head coach Richard Graham said; “Pettowa has been with us now for the last two seasons. He continues to develop strongly in a very competitive position.” Paraka echoed Richard Graham’s comments saying “I can’t wait to really get stuck in over the next two years. I love it in Queensland and with James Slipper and Ben Daley also in the squad it will be a good test for me personally to try crack the match day team. They are great guys to learn from with loads of experience so I hope I can eventually achieve what they have for the Reds.”

Junior Satiu Signs with Narbonne

Young Australian prop Junior Satiu has signed a 1 year deal with ProD2 outfit Narbonne for the 2015/16 season.

The 19 year old current West Harbour Pirates player has come through the Australian Schoolboys and Waratahs Under 20s programs and has become one of the most dominant props for his age. Able to play both sides of the scrum, Junior earlier this year made his 1st grade debut for the Pirates against Randwick.

Speaking on his move Junior said “I am over the moon to be given the opportunity. After having a couple of injuries this year i really wanted to play some more rugby and now to be given the chance at pro rugby at such a great club is awesome.”

Tim Cree Signs With Rotherham Titans

Congratulations to Tuggeranong Vikings Tim Cree who has signed a 1 year deal with the Rotherham Titans in the English Championship.

Cree, a backrower or lock has had a stellar few seasons in Canberra which saw him earn selection for the UC Vikings in their inaugural season. Consistent good form in the NRC didn’t go unnoticed and Cree was quickly snapped up by the Titans’ for their upcoming Championship campaign.

Speaking on signing with Rotherham, Cree said; “I am very pumped to be joining Rotherham, they are a really strong side consistently at the top end of the Championship and this is going to be a great new challenge for me playing in England.”

Chris Seuteni Signs With SC Albi

Congratulations to Chris Seuteni who has signed with SC Albi in the ProD2 for the next two years.

The big tighthead has had an incredible journey since his arrival in France two years ago from the Parramatta Two Blues and has already had a taste of ProD2 rugby with Aurillac as a medical joker in the 2013/14 season. Commenting on signing with Albi, Chris said “I’m really happy to get a the opportunity to join a great club on the rise and now i’m just trying to stay focused and have a big off season so i can hit the ground running come day one with my new club. I know it will be a good challenge for me to break into such a strong forward pack but that’s what will hopefully drive me to keep working hard. I’ve only heard good things about Albi so i can’t wait to get stuck in”.

A special congratulations must also go to Chris and his partner Cloe on the birth of their first child Olivier, we are all sure the next couple of years are going to be great for the family.
